Poppy Calhoun, a business and equine studies student, knew she had a job in business administration before she’d even finished her course last year.

“I might not have got this job if not for Box Hill Institute. They gave me the education and skills development that I needed.
“I wanted to work in the equine industry but needed to get a job so I decided to do a business course.
“I chose TAFE because it’s so much more practical.”

Dulip Kreeraj, from Mauritius, has gained valuable work experience at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games through his patisserie course in Box Hill Institute’s hospitality department.

“This kitchen at the Melbourne Cricket Ground is the second largest in Melbourne. What we learned in pastry at Box Hill Institute we got to apply there in large quantities.
“If I have to work in a small kitchen later, it will be very easy for me now—it would be no big deal.
“I came to Box Hill Institute because I read on the Internet that pastry courses at other TAFEs were not as good—you’re supposed to be learning how to be a pastry chef not how to make coffee.
“The teachers at Box Hill Institute are great and the thing I like is that they have experience from industry and they can come back and give the best to the students.”

Study in Australia

Australia has grown to become one of the top destinations to study around the world.
A high degree of sophistication, a matchless charm, and above all, Australia’s dynamic, exciting study environment, Australia is just the right place to give your career that global edge.

But what makes Australia stand out? Why should you come to Australia as a destination to further your international education?

1. Growing Destination
International students have always been an important presence in the UK, and the numbers have been growing steadily.

More than 450,000 international students were enrolled in Australian institutions in 2007. Currently Australia has the third largest international student enrollment behind the USA and the UK.

2. Worldwide Recognition
Australian education has a strong academic reputation around the world and their degrees are internationally recognised – and highly regarded – by employers and other universities alike.

13 Australia universities appeared in the complete list of the world’s top 200 and all universities in the country are regulated by Australian Government each year to make sure they are maintaining their high education standards.

3. Education Costs are Lower
The tuition fees and living costs to study in Australia compare better than most other countries with quality tuition being more affordable than in the UK, USA or Canada, whilst offering a safe studying environment for international students, and a standard of living that is among the highest in the world.

4. Work Opportunities
An international student in the UK is typically allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during school term, and up to full-time when school is out of term. This opportunity makes it much more affordable for students who can attend school and still fund their education with some work.

5. Diversity
Institutions in Australia offer a wide variety of course and degrees, making it easy to find a fit that is right for you!

Institutions ranging from universities, specialist institutions, institutes, colleges and schools provide a path that suits your particular goals.

6. Lifestyle
Favourable climate, safe and stable environment, attractive surrounds and friendly people make it an enjoyable place to study.

7. Multicultural
Overseas students are welcome in Australia’s multicultural society

8. Technology
Not many people know this, but Australia is in the top 10 spenders in the world for research and development and 2% of all scientific papers in the world come from Australia, putting Australia at the forefront of new technology and innovations. From only a meager population of 19 million, there have been 7 Nobel Prize winners.

9. Support
Networks of support exist to help students in all aspects of their stay in Australia

10. The innovative teaching and learning
Studying in Australia promotes innovative, creative and independent thinking. You’ll learn to work as part of a team, to communicate effectively with others and to develop the practical skills and intellectual abilities you need for global success.

Most importantly, you’ll learn how to use your initiative. Your teachers will encourage you to think of original, practical solutions to real-world problems
